1. Park the car in a safe location and turn off the engine.
2. Locate the gear shift knob.
It is located in the center console between the front seats.
3. Pull up on the gear shift knob to remove it.
There may be a small button or lever that you need to press or move in order to release the knob.
4. Remove the plastic trim piece around the base of the gear shift.
It may be held in place by clips or screws.
5. Unscrew the bolts holding the gear shift lever in place.
There may be one or two bolts, depending on the model of your car.
6. Remove the gear shift lever from the car.
Be careful not to drop the gear shift lever, as it is a heavy piece of metal.
7. Insert the new gear shift lever into the car. Make sure that the splines on the lever line up with the splines on the transmission.
8. Replace the bolts that hold the gear shift lever in place.
Tighten the bolts until they are snug.
9. Replace the plastic trim piece around the base of the gear shift.
Snap the trim piece into place or replace the screws.
10. Press down on the gear shift knob to install it.
Make sure that the gear shift knob is seated properly on the lever.
