Why would my 2002 Chev S-10 pickup only click when I try to start it?

1) Dead Battery. This is the most common cause of a car that won't start. If your battery is dead, there will not be enough power to turn the starter motor, which is what engages the engine and starts the car. You can test your battery with a voltmeter. If the voltage is below 12.6 volts, the battery is dead and needs to be replaced.

2) Bad Starter Motor. If the battery is good, the next thing to check is the starter motor. The starter motor is responsible for turning the engine over so it can start. If the starter motor is bad, it will not be able to engage the engine, and the car will not start.

3) Bad Electrical Connection. If the battery and starter motor are both good, the next thing to check is the electrical connections between the battery, starter motor, and ignition switch. If there is a bad connection, the electricity will not be able to flow properly and the car will not start.

4) Bad Ignition Switch. If the electrical connections are all good, the next thing to check is the ignition switch. The ignition switch is what turns on the electricity to the starter motor. If the ignition switch is bad, it will not be able to send power to the starter motor, and the car will not start.

5) Anti-Theft System. Some cars have anti-theft systems that can prevent the car from starting if the key is not recognized. If you have an anti-theft system, make sure that the key is properly programmed and that the system is not malfunctioning.
