1. Tools and Materials Required:
- Phillips screwdriver
- Flathead screwdriver
- 10 mm socket wrench with ratchet
- Replacement headlight (if necessary)
2. Open the Hood:
- Pull the hood release lever inside the cabin near your left foot.
- Go to the front of the vehicle and lift the hood.
- Securely prop open the hood using the support rod.
3. Disconnect Battery (optional):
- For some people's safety preference, you may choose to unhook the negative (black) terminal cable from the battery for additional safety precaution.
4. Locate the Headlight Assembly:
- The headlights on the 2001 Ford ZX2 are located behind the front, clear plastic covers on either side of the front fascia.
5. Remove the Cover Panel:
- Using a Phillips screwdriver, remove the screws holding the clear plastic cover in place.
- Carefully remove the plastic cover. Some models have plastic locking tabs that you may need to gently pry loose.
6. Locate the Headlight Assembly:

9. Remove the Headlight Assembly:
- Once the connectors are unplugged, carefully remove the headlight assembly from the vehicle by pulling it towards you.
10. Replace the Headlight (if necessary):
- If you are replacing the headlight, now is the time to do so.
- Follow the steps in reverse order to install the new headlight assembly, reconnect the electrical connectors, replace the bolts, and secure the clear plastic cover.
11. Test the Headlights:
- Once everything is reconnected and secured, close the hood and start your vehicle.
- Turn on the headlights to ensure they are working correctly.
