- Flat-head screwdriver
- Pliers
- Window crank removal tool (optional)
- Replacement window regulator
- Replacement window glass
- Door panel clips (optional)
Instructions:
1. Disconnect the Battery:
Start by disconnecting the battery to avoid any electrical issues while working on the window.
2. Remove the Door Panel:
- Use a Phillips-head screwdriver to remove the screws that hold the interior door handle in place.
- Once the screws are out, gently pry off the door handle cover using a flat-head screwdriver. Be careful not to break any of the plastic tabs.
- Carefully pry off the door panel clips around the edge of the panel using the flat-head screwdriver. Start from the bottom of the panel and work your way up.
- Once all the clips are released, lift the door panel up and off the door.
3. Remove the Window Crank:
- If your Saturn SL1 has a manual window crank, remove it by pressing the release tab on the side and pulling the crank toward you.
- If there is no release tab, you can use a window crank removal tool or pliers to remove the crank.
4. Remove the Window Regulator:
- Locate the window regulator, which is the mechanism that raises and lowers the window.
- Use a Phillips-head screwdriver to remove the bolts that hold the window regulator in place.
- Once the bolts are removed, lift the window regulator out of the door.
- Tip: If the window regulator cable is snapped or damaged, it will need to be replaced along with the window regulator.
5. Remove the Window Glass:
- Disconnect the window stop clips or cables from the window regulator.
- Once the window stop clips or cables are disconnected, lift the window glass out of the door.
6. Install the Replacement Window Glass:
- Place the replacement window glass into the door, making sure that it is aligned properly with the window frame.
- Connect the window stop clips or cables to the window regulator.
7. Install the Replacement Window Regulator:
- Position the replacement window regulator into the door, aligning the mounting holes with those on the door.
- Secure the regulator with the bolts that were removed in step 4.
8. Reinstall the Window Crank:
- If you removed the window crank in step 3, reinstall it now by pressing it into place until it snaps into position.
9. Reinstall the Door Panel:
- Start by placing the door panel clips back into the door, making sure they are snapped into place securely.
- Lower the door panel onto the door and align it with the mounting holes.
- Insert the screws that were removed in step 2 to secure the door panel.
- Reattach the door handle cover.
10. Connect the Battery:
- Reconnect the battery to restore power to the vehicle.
11. Test the Window:
- Roll the window up and down a few times to ensure it is functioning properly.
