- A set of feeler gauges
- A 5/16-inch wrench
- A screwdriver
1. Begin by removing the valve covers.
2. Locate the rocker arms. There will be eight of them, four on each side of the engine.
3. Each rocker arm has a small screw near the top. This is the valve adjustment screw.
4. Use the 5/16-inch wrench to loosen the valve adjustment screw on one of the rocker arms.
5. Insert a feeler gauge between the valve stem and the rocker arm. The feeler gauge should be snug, but not too tight.
6. Tighten the valve adjustment screw until the feeler gauge is held firmly in place.
7. Repeat steps 4-6 for the remaining seven rocker arms.
8. Replace the valve covers.
Here are some additional tips for adjusting the valves on a 1970 Pontiac 350 engine:
- The engine should be cold when you adjust the valves.
- If the valves are too loose, they will cause a ticking noise.
- If the valves are too tight, they will prevent the engine from running smoothly.
- It is important to get the valve adjustment correct, as it can affect the performance of the engine.
