- Use a gasket scraper and gasket solvent.
- Make sure all old pieces will not drop and block oil ways or coolant ports, especially inside passages.
2. Check the surfaces
- Look over and check the sealing areas for flatness on both the cylinder deck and cylinder heads or head surfaces.
- Use a straight edge for inspecting straightness and feeler gauges to measure if there may be warpage. There shouldn't be gaps larger than 0.006in or 0.15mm.
- If it needs machining take them to an auto or engine machine shop or purchase all new pieces.
3. Remove any dirt & oil deposits
- Using an aerosol solvent for carbon-deposits or dirt or brake clean spray or acetone.
