How do you replace the water pump on a 1986 Honda CRX si?

Tools Needed:

- Metric Socket set

- Phillips screwdriver

- Drain pan

- Funnel

Parts Needed:

- Water pump (OEM recommended)

- Water Pump Gasket

- Coolant (for refilling)

Instructions:

Locate the Water Pump

1. Open hood of vehicle.

2. Locate the water pump. It is at the front of the engine, below the distributor, and driven by a belt.

Drain the Coolant

3. Place a drain pan under the water pump.

4. Remove the lower radiator drain plug to allow the coolant to drain.

5. Close radiator drain plug when finished draining.

Remove the Drive Belts

6. Loosen the bolts holding the alternator in place and slide it out of the way.

7. Remove the power steering belt (if applicable).

8. Remove the timing belt cover.

Remove the Water Pump

9. Remove the bolts holding the water pump in place.

10. Remove the old gasket.

Install the Water Pump

11. Apply a thin coat of gasket sealer to the new gasket.

12. Position the new gasket on the water pump.

13. Position the water pump on the engine block and reinstall the bolts.

14. Tighten the bolts in a criss-cross pattern.

15. Reinstall the drive belt.

Refill the Coolant

16. Refill the radiator with coolant.

17. Refill the coolant overflow reservoir.

18. Run engine and inspect for leaks.

Start Engine

19. Start the engine.

20. Check for leaks and ensure that the water pump is working properly.

Test Drive

21. Take car for a short test drive and make sure that the engine is not overheating.
