Step 1: Locate the Hood Latch:
Identify the hood latch located at the front end of your vehicle's engine compartment. It typically has a lever or handle that would be connected to the broken cable.
Step 2: Access the Latch:
Many vehicles have a grille or covers that block direct access to the latch. Look for release mechanisms or latches to remove these barriers to expose the hood latch mechanism.
Step 3: Use the Flathead Screwdriver:
Insert the flathead screwdriver or pry tool into the gap near the hood latch. This gap should provide access to the latch mechanism behind it.
Step 4: Pry Open the Latch:
Use the flathead screwdriver as a lever to pry open the hood latch. Apply pressure to release the latch's locking mechanism. You might need to wiggle the screwdriver while prying to find the sweet spot.
Step 5: Engage with Pliers or Vice Grips:
Once the latch is partially released, use pliers or vice grips to grab onto the exposed portion of the broken cable or the latch mechanism itself.
Step 6: Pull and Lift the Hood:
While holding the pliers or vice grips, gently pull the cable end or the latch mechanism. This should open the hood. Simultaneously lift the hood to fully release it.
Step 7: Secure the Hood (Optional):
If the hood is difficult to keep open, you can use a long zip tie to secure it temporarily until the cable is replaced.

1. Be careful not to damage surrounding parts with your tools.
