How do you replace the radiator on a 2002 cavalier?

Tools and Materials Needed:

Tools

- Socket wrench set

- Pliers

- Flat-blade screwdriver

- Phillips-head screwdriver

- Funnel

- Coolant

- New radiator

- Radiator cap

- Radiator hose clamps

Instructions

1. Park your car on a level surface and turn off the engine. Allow it to cool down.

2. Locate the radiator drain plug. It is typically located at the bottom of the radiator on the passenger side.

3. Place a drain pan under the drain plug. Open the drain plug and allow all of the coolant to drain from the radiator.

4. Disconnect the upper and lower radiator hoses. Use a wrench to loosen the hose clamps and then pull the hoses off of the radiator nipples.

5. Remove the old radiator. There are two bolts that hold the radiator in place. Use a wrench to remove these bolts and then lift the radiator out of the car.

6. Install the new radiator. Place the new radiator in the car and secure it with the two bolts.

7. Reconnect the upper and lower radiator hoses. Tighten the hose clamps.

8. Add coolant to the radiator. Use a funnel to add coolant to the radiator until the level reaches the "full" mark on the coolant reservoir.

9. Replace the radiator cap. Close the radiator cap.

Tips:

* Be careful not to spill any coolant on the ground. Coolant is poisonous.

* If you have an air conditioning system, you may need to disconnect the A/C lines before you can remove the radiator.

* If you are replacing the radiator because the old one is leaking, check the radiator hoses and water pump for leaks as well.
