Tools and Materials You'll Need:
- Phillips head screwdriver
- Flathead screwdriver or pry tool
- Wire cutters or strippers
- Aftermarket speaker that fits your vehicle
- Speaker wire connectors (optional)
- Soldering iron (optional)
Step 1: Prepare the Vehicle
1. Park your Oldsmobile Intrigue in a safe and level area.
2. Turn off the engine and engage the parking brake.
3. Disconnect the vehicle’s negative battery terminal to prevent any electrical accidents.
Step 2: Remove the Door Panel
1. Locate the screws holding the door panel in place. There might be screws located behind plastic covers or underneath the door handle.
2. Use the Phillips head screwdriver to remove these screws.
3. Gently pry around the edges of the door panel using the flathead screwdriver or pry tool. Start from the bottom and work your way up.
4. Be careful not to damage the door panel or clips.
5. Once the panel is loose, disconnect any electrical connectors (e.g., power window switch) carefully.
6. Set aside the door panel in a safe place.
Step 3: Remove the Factory Speaker
1. Locate the factory speaker mounted inside the door panel. It's usually secured with screws.
2. Use the screwdriver to remove the screws holding the speaker in place.
3. Disconnect the speaker wires by carefully pressing the release tabs on the wire connectors and pulling them apart.
4. Remove the factory speaker from the door panel.
Step 4: Install the Aftermarket Speaker
1. Place the new aftermarket speaker into the door panel in the same position as the factory speaker.
2. Connect the speaker wires to the aftermarket speaker using speaker wire connectors or by soldering them together (if the new speaker has different connectors). Make sure to match the positive (+) and negative (-) terminals correctly.
3. Secure the aftermarket speaker in place using the screws you removed earlier. Tighten the screws until the speaker is firmly mounted.
Step 5: Reattach the Door Panel
1. Reconnect any electrical connectors you disconnected earlier (e.g., power window switch).
2. Align the door panel with the door frame and press firmly to snap the clips back in place.
3. Replace and tighten the screws you removed in Step 2.
4. Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
5. Test the new speaker by playing some music and adjusting the volume.
Remember, this is a general guide, and specific steps may vary based on the exact year and model of your Oldsmobile Intrigue. If you're unsure about any step, it's best to consult a professional or refer to a vehicle-specific repair manual.
