How do you change a heater core in 1996 Oldsmobile Bravada?

Tools and materials:

- Set of wrenches

- Socket set

- Pliers

- Flat-head screwdriver

- Phillips-head screwdriver

- Coolant

- Heater core

- Hoses

- Clamps

- Catch pan

Instructions:

1. Remove the negative battery cable. Use a wrench to loosen the negative battery cable clamp and remove the cable from the battery.

2. Drain the coolant. Locate the coolant drain valve on the bottom of the radiator or heater core and open it to drain the coolant into a catch pan. Be sure to drain the coolant slowly and carefully to avoid spills.

3. Remove the heater hoses: Use a wrench to loosen the hose clamps on the heater hoses and disconnect them from the heater core.

4. Remove the heater core mounting bolts: Use a wrench or a socket set to remove the bolts holding the heater core in place.

5. Pull out the old heater core: Once the bolts are removed, you can carefully pull out the old heater core from the inside of the vehicle. Be careful not to drop the heater core onto the ground to avoid damage.

6. Install the new heater core: Insert the new heater core into the housing and align the bolt holes. Secure the heater core in place with the mounting bolts you removed in Step 4. Tighten the bolts to the recommended torque specified in your vehicle's service manual.

7. Reattach the heater hoses: Connect the heater hoses to the heater core and secure them with the hose clamps you removed in Step 3. Tighten the hose clamps to the recommended torque specified in your vehicle's service manual.

8. Fill the coolant reservoir: Fill the coolant reservoir to the recommended level with the proper type of coolant. Be careful not to overfill the coolant reservoir.

9. Start the engine: Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes to circulate the coolant throughout the system. Check for any leaks around the heater core and hose connections. If you find any leaks, tighten the connections or replace the damaged components.

10. Reconnect the negative battery cable: Reconnect the negative battery cable to the battery and tighten the clamp.

Once you have completed these steps, your heater core should be successfully replaced. If you are not confident in your ability to perform these steps, it is best to consult a professional mechanic for assistance.
