- Brake pads or shoes worn out. This is the most common cause of a scraping noise in the rear wheel. When brake pads or shoes wear down, they can make contact with the rotor or drum, causing a scraping sound.
- Damaged or loose brake caliper. If the brake caliper is damaged or loose, it can cause the brake pads to drag on the rotor, creating a scraping sound.
- Bent or damaged wheel rim. If the wheel rim is bent or damaged, it can rub against the brake caliper or rotor, producing a scraping noise.
- Wheel bearing failure. A failing wheel bearing can cause the wheel to wobble, which can rub against the brake caliper or rotor, resulting in a scraping sound.
- Foreign objects lodged between the brake pad and rotor or drum. If a foreign object, such as a stone or piece of metal, gets lodged between the brake pad and rotor or drum, it can cause a scraping noise.
