1) Park your Jeep on a level surface. Engage the parking brake set and then turn off the engine.
2) Locate the spare tire.
- Most Jeep models have the spare tire mounted on the back door.
- Some Jeep models have the spare tire mounted under the vehicle in the spare tire well.
- Some Jeep models have the spare tire mounted on a roof rack.
3) Loosen the lug nuts on the spare tire.
- Some models may have lug nut covers which need to be removed as well.
4) Remove the lug wrench from the tools provided with the vehicle.
5) Place the lug wrench on the spare tire lug nuts and remove the lug nut covers if necessary.
- Turn counterclockwise to loosen.
6) Jack up the vehicle.
- Locate the proper jacking point for your model.
- Use a jack to raise your vehicle enough to remove the spare tire.
7) Remove the lug nuts.
8) Lower the vehicle.
8) Remove the spare tire.
- Gently pull the spare tire toward you to remove it from the vehicle.
9) Place the spare tire in a safe location.
10) Replace the lug nuts.
- Hand-tighten the lug nuts until they are snug.
11) Lower the jack.
12) Tighten the lug nuts.
- Use the lug wrench to tighten the lug nuts in a star pattern. Tighten them to the specified torque (see your owner's manual for the correct torque specification).
13) Lower the vehicle.
14) Replace the lug nut covers if necessary.
Once you've removed the spare tire, make sure to secure the spare tire properly and reinstall all the removed parts. Also, always remember to tighten the lug nuts securely to ensure the spare tire is properly attached to the vehicle.
