Tools and Materials Needed
* Jack and jack stands
* Lug wrench
* Socket wrench set
* Ratchet
* Flat-head screwdriver
* Pry bar
* Ball joint separator
* Replacement wheel bearing
* Grease
* Shop towels
Instructions
1. Park the truck on a level surface and set the parking brake.
2. Loosen the lug nuts on the front wheel that you will be working on.
3. Raise the truck with the jack and place jack stands under the frame.
4. Remove the lug nuts and take off the wheel.
5. Remove the caliper and hang it out of the way with a piece of wire.
6. Remove the rotor.
7. Remove the dust cap from the wheel bearing hub.
8. Use a flat-head screwdriver to pry out the cotter pin from the castle nut.
9. Remove the castle nut.
10. Use a pry bar to pry the hub assembly off of the spindle.
11. Remove the old wheel bearing from the hub assembly.
12. Clean the hub assembly and spindle thoroughly.
13. Pack the new wheel bearing with grease.
14. Install the new wheel bearing into the hub assembly.
15. Install the castle nut and cotter pin.
16. Reinstall the hub assembly onto the spindle.
17. Reinstall the rotor, caliper, and wheel.
18. Lower the truck and remove the jack stands.
19. Test drive the truck to make sure that the wheel bearing is working properly.
Tips
* Be careful not to damage the threads on the spindle when removing the castle nut.
* Use a generous amount of grease when packing the new wheel bearing.
* Make sure that the cotter pin is properly installed before driving the truck.
* If you are not comfortable performing this repair yourself, you can take your truck to a mechanic.
