1. Disconnect the battery. This will prevent any electrical shock while you are working on the car.
2. Locate the serpentine belt. The serpentine belt is the long belt that wraps around the front of the engine. It drives the alternator, power steering pump, and air conditioning compressor.
3. Loosen the tensioner pulley. The tensioner pulley is located on the passenger side of the engine, near the top. It has a bolt in the center that you can loosen with a wrench.
4. Remove the serpentine belt. Once the tensioner pulley is loosened, you can slip the serpentine belt off of the pulleys.
5. Replace the serpentine belt. To install the new serpentine belt, simply reverse the steps that you took to remove the old belt.
6. Adjust the tensioner pulley. Once the new serpentine belt is installed, you need to adjust the tensioner pulley. Use a wrench to tighten the bolt in the center of the tensioner pulley until the belt is snug, but not too tight.
7. Reconnect the battery. Now that you are finished changing the belts, you can reconnect the battery.
8. Test the belts. Start the car and let it run for a few minutes. Check to make sure that the belts are running smoothly and that there are no unusual noises.
Loosening Bolts
The bolts that you will need to loosen in order to change the belts are located in the following places:
* Tensioner pulley bolt: This bolt is located in the center of the tensioner pulley.
* Alternator bolts: There are two bolts that hold the alternator in place. They are located on the back of the alternator.
* Power steering pump bolts: There are two bolts that hold the power steering pump in place. They are located on the back of the power steering pump.
* Air conditioning compressor bolts: There are two bolts that hold the air conditioning compressor in place. They are located on the back of the air conditioning compressor.
