How do you change a thermostat on 1987 Nissan Pathfinder?

Tools and Materials Needed:

Phillips head screwdriver

Flat head screwdriver

Ratchet and socket set

Pliers

Coolant

Replacement thermostat

Gasket

Rags

Instructions:

1. Park your Nissan Pathfinder on a level surface and turn off the engine. Allow it to cool down for at least 30 minutes.

2. Open the hood of your vehicle and locate the thermostat housing. It is usually a round or oval-shaped housing located near the top of the engine.

3. Use a Phillips head screwdriver to remove the screws holding the thermostat housing in place. Be careful not to drop the screws.

4. Once the screws are removed, gently pry open the thermostat housing using a flat head screwdriver. Be careful not to spill any coolant that may be inside the housing.

5. Remove the old thermostat from the housing. It is usually held in place by a gasket.

6. Clean the thermostat housing and the mating surface of the engine block. Remove any old gasket material or debris.

7. Install the new thermostat and gasket into the housing. Make sure that the thermostat is properly seated and that the gasket is in place.

8. Reinstall the thermostat housing and tighten the screws.

9. Add coolant to the radiator fill tank until the level reaches the "Full" mark.

10. Close the hood of your vehicle and start the engine. Let it run for a few minutes to check for any leaks.

11. Test the thermostat by letting the engine reach operating temperature. The thermostat should open and allow coolant to flow through the system.

12. If everything seems to be in order, turn the engine off and allow the vehicle to cool down. Recheck the coolant level and add more if necessary.
