Locate the rear high brake light. On the 2001 RAV4, the rear high brake light is located at the top of the rear window, near the roofline.
Open the rear cargo door or liftgate to gain access to the interior of the vehicle.
Locate the rear high brake light bulb socket. In the 2001 RAV4, the bulb socket is located behind a plastic cover on the inside of the tailgate.
Remove the plastic cover by prying it off with a flat-head screwdriver or other suitable tool.
Remove the old bulb by turning it counterclockwise until it comes loose.
Insert the new bulb into the socket by turning it clockwise until it is snug.
Replace the plastic cover.
Close the rear cargo door or liftgate.
Test the new brake light by depressing the brake pedal and making sure the high brake light illuminates.
