- Replacement bearing

- New cotter pin

- Grease

- Shop rags

- Safety glasses

- Gloves

1. Prepare the Vehicle:

- Park on level ground and set the parking brake.

- Loosen the lug nuts slightly but don't remove them completely.

2. Raise the Vehicle:

- Safely raise the rear of the vehicle using a jack and place jack stands under the frame for support.

- Remove the lug nuts and take off the wheel.

3. Remove the Brake Drum:

- This may require some tapping with the hammer. Avoid direct hammer contact to prevent damaging the drum surface.

4. Remove the Hub Assembly:

- Use the flathead screwdriver to pry up the dust cover. Remove the cotter pin and the castle nut.

- Use a hammer and punch to knock the hub assembly out.

5. Remove the Old Bearing:

- Clean the hub assembly and remove any old grease.

- Use a slide hammer or bearing puller to remove the old bearing.

6. Install the New Bearing:

- Clean and grease the new bearing thoroughly.

- Gently tap the new bearing into place using a hammer and socket extension or bearing race installer.

7. Reassemble the Hub Assembly:

- Place the castle nut back onto the spindle and install a new cotter pin.

- Replace the dust cover.

8. Reinstall the Brake Drum:

- Double-check that the hub assembly is securely in place.

- Reattach the brake drum. If it's stuck, gently tap it back into place using the hammer.

9. Reinstall the Wheel:

- Place the wheel back on the hub. Tighten the lug nuts hand-tight.

10. Lower the Vehicle:

- Lower the vehicle carefully until the tires touch the ground.

11. Tighten the Lug Nuts:

- Tighten the lug nuts in a star pattern using a torque wrench to the specified torque as per vehicle manufacturer's recommendations.

12. Test Drive:

- Take the vehicle for a short test drive to ensure that the wheel bearings are working smoothly and there are no abnormal sounds.

Remember, this is a general overview of the process. It's important to refer to the specific service manual for your 1987 Isuzu Trooper for detailed instructions and safety precautions.
