Instructions:
1. Park the car on a level surface and engage the parking brake.
2. Chock the front wheels.
3. Jack up the rear of the car and place the jack stands underneath the frame.
4. Remove the lug nuts and take off the rear wheels.
5. Remove the brake drum by removing the two retaining bolts.
6. Clean the hub surface of the wheel cylinder and the brake shoes with a wire brush.
7. Install the new brake shoes by sliding them into place over the wheel cylinder.
8. Secure the brake shoes in place by inserting the retaining bolts through the holes in the brake shoes and tightening them with a socket wrench.
9. Place the new brake drums onto the wheel hubs and secure them with the lug nuts.
10. Lower the car back down to the ground and remove the jack stands.
11. Verify that the brakes are working properly by depressing the brake pedal. The brake pedal should feel firm and the car should stop smoothly when the brakes are applied.
Tips:
- Be careful not to get brake fluid on your skin or in your eyes. If you do get brake fluid on your skin, wash it off immediately with soap and water. If you get brake fluid in your eyes, flush them with plenty of water and seek medical attention.
- Before you install the new brake drums, make sure to check the condition of the brake pads. If the brake pads are worn out, they should be replaced before installing the new brake drums.
