Where is the knock sensor located in a Nissan Altima 1997 and how do you replace it?

The knock sensor in a 1997 Nissan Altima is located on the engine block, just below the intake manifold. To replace the knock sensor, you will need the following tools:

- Socket wrench set

- Phillips head screwdriver

- Flathead screwdriver

- Pliers

- New knock sensor

Here are the steps on how to replace the knock sensor:

1. Disconnect the negative terminal from the battery. This will prevent the engine from starting while you are working on it.

2. Remove the intake manifold. The intake manifold is held in place by several bolts and brackets. Use the socket wrench set to remove these bolts and brackets, and then carefully lift the intake manifold off the engine block.

3. Locate the knock sensor. The knock sensor is a small, cylindrical sensor that is located on the engine block, just below the intake manifold. It is typically held in place by a single bolt.

4. Remove the bolt that holds the knock sensor in place. Use the socket wrench to remove the bolt, and then carefully remove the knock sensor from the engine block.

5. Clean the mating surface of the engine block. Use the flathead screwdriver to clean the mating surface of the engine block where the knock sensor will be installed. Make sure that all of the old gasket material is removed.

6. Install the new knock sensor. Place the new knock sensor in the mating surface of the engine block, and then hand-tighten the bolt that holds it in place.

7. Torque the bolt to the specified torque. Use the torque wrench to torque the bolt that holds the knock sensor in place to the specified torque. The specified torque for the knock sensor bolt is 18-22 ft-lbs (24-29 Nm).

8. Reinstall the intake manifold. Carefully place the intake manifold back on the engine block, and then reinstall the bolts and brackets that hold it in place.

9. Reconnect the negative terminal to the battery. Reconnect the negative terminal to the battery, and then start the engine. Check for any leaks around the knock sensor. If you see any leaks, tighten the bolt that holds the knock sensor in place until the leak stops.
