Tools needed:
- Socket wrench
- Ratchet
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. This will help to prevent any electrical shocks while you are working on the sensor.
2. Locate the camshaft sensor. It is usually located on the front of the engine, near the top of the cylinder head.
3. Remove the electrical connector from the sensor by pressing the release tab and pulling the connector straight up.
4. Remove the two bolts that hold the sensor in place using the socket wrench and ratchet.
5. Remove the old camshaft sensor.
6. Install the new camshaft sensor by reversing the steps above.
7. Hand-tighten the bolts that hold the sensor in place, then tighten them fully using the socket wrench and ratchet.
8. Reconnect the electrical connector to the sensor.
9. Connect the negative battery cable.
10. Start the engine and let it idle for a few minutes. This will allow the engine control unit to relearn the new camshaft sensor position.
If the camshaft sensor is not reset properly, it can cause the engine to run rough or stall.
