Materials Needed:
-New oil filter (Toyota part number 90915-YZZF1)
-New O-ring (Toyota part number 90430-12031)
-Oil drain pan
-Ratchet
-17mm socket
-Funnel
-Replacement oil (5 quarts of 5W-30)
-Rags
Steps:
1. Park your car on a level surface and engage the parking brake. Turn off the engine and allow it to cool down.
2. Locate the oil filter housing. It is situated on the front side of the engine, just below the oil dipstick.
3. Place the oil drain pan beneath the oil filter housing. Make sure the pan is large enough to catch all of the oil that will drain out.
4. Loosen the oil filter housing drain plug. Use the ratchet and 17mm socket to turn the drain plug counterclockwise until it is loose. Allow the oil to drain completely into the pan.
5. Replace the O-ring on the drain plug. This will ensure a tight seal and prevent leaks.
6. Reinstall the drain plug and tighten it securely.
7. Remove the oil filter. Turn the oil filter counterclockwise until it is loose, then remove it from the housing. Be careful not to spill any oil.
8. Apply a thin coat of new oil to the gasket of the new oil filter. This will help to create a seal and prevent leaks.
9. Screw the new oil filter onto the housing until it is hand-tight. Do not over-tighten the filter, as this can damage the threads.
10. Add new oil to the engine. Use the funnel to add 5 quarts of 5W-30 oil to the engine.
11. Check the oil level with the dipstick. The oil level should be between the "FULL" and "ADD" marks on the dipstick.
12. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes. Check for any leaks around the oil filter housing. If there are no leaks, turn off the engine and replace the oil cap.
Dispose of the old oil and filter properly. Take them to a recycling center or auto parts store for proper disposal.
