How do you change the front brake pads on a Mazda rx8?

Tools and Materials Needed:

- Floor Jack

- Jack stands

- Wheel chocks

- Lug wrench

- ½ inch drive Ratchet

- 17 mm socket

- Flathead screwdriver

- Brake pad spreader

- Brake cleaner

- New brake pads

1. Park your car on a level surface and engage the parking brake. Please make sure to check that it's in Park (Automatic transmission) or first gear (Manual transmission).

2. Place wheel chocks behind the rear wheels. This will prevent your car from rolling while you're working on it.

3. Jack up the front of your car and support it on jack stands. Refer to your car's owner's manual for the proper jack points.

4. Remove the lug nuts and take off the front wheels. Set the lug nuts aside in a safe place.

5. Locate the brake calipers. They are on either side of the brake rotors.

6. Use a flathead screwdriver to pry the brake pads apart. The brake pads are held in place by a metal clip.

7. Remove the brake pads from the calipers. Be careful not to damage the brake rotors.

8. Clean the brake calipers and rotors with brake cleaner. Make sure to remove any dirt or debris.

9. Install the new brake pads into the calipers. Make sure that the pads are seated correctly.

10. Replace the metal clip that holds the brake pads in place.

11. Put the wheels back on the car and tighten the lug nuts. Don't forget to lower the car off the jack stands before tightening the lug nuts.

12. Test the brakes by applying them slowly and firmly. The brakes should feel firm and responsive.

13. Take your car for a test drive to make sure the brakes are working properly.
