Gather the necessary tools and parts:
- Replacement rear windshield wiper blade and arm (check your owner's manual for the specific size)
- Flat-head screwdriver
- Pliers
Locate the release tab on the existing windshield wiper arm.
- On the 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee, the release tab is usually located near the base of the wiper arm, where it connects to the wiper motor.
Using the flat-head screwdriver, gently pry up on the release tab to loosen the wiper arm from the wiper motor.
- Be careful not to damage the wiper motor while prying up the release tab.
Once the release tab is loosened, use your fingers to pull the wiper arm straight up to remove it from the motor.
Disconnect the electrical connector (if equipped) from the old wiper arm.
- Some wiper arms may have an electrical connector that provides power to the heated wiper blade. If this is the case, disconnect the connector by pressing the release tab and pulling the connector straight out.
Install the new wiper arm.
- Insert the new wiper arm onto the wiper motor and make sure that the release tab snaps back into place to secure the arm in place.
Reconnect the electrical connector (if equipped).
- If you disconnected the electrical connector, reconnect it now by pressing the release tab and inserting the connector until it clicks into place.
Attach the new wiper blade.
- Slide the new wiper blade onto the wiper arm until it snaps into place. Make sure that the blade is seated securely.
Test the wiper blade.
- Turn on the rear windshield wiper motor to check that the new blade is working properly.
Dispose of the old wiper blade and arm properly.
Additional tips:
If the wiper arm is stuck and difficult to remove, you may need to use some penetrating oil or lubricant to loosen it up.
If your 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee has a rear spoiler or other obstruction blocking access to the wiper arm, you may need to remove or move it temporarily to gain access.
Regularly inspecting and replacing the rear windshield wiper blade and arm will help ensure that your rear window remains clear and free of debris, even in inclement weather conditions.
