How do you replace a power steering pulley?

Tools and Materials:

1. Replacement power steering pulley

2. Power steering fluid

3. Wrench set

4. Socket set

5. Pulley puller

6. Flathead screwdriver

7. Drain pan

8. Safety glasses

Procedure:

1. Park your vehicle on a level surface and turn off the engine. Allow it to cool down completely.

2. Open the hood of your vehicle.

3. Locate the power steering pump. It is usually mounted on the front of the engine near the serpentine belt.

4. Identify the power steering pulley. It is the pulley on the power steering pump that the serpentine belt wraps around.

5. Place a drain pan under the power steering pump.

6. Loosen the power steering pump mounting bolts. Do not remove the bolts completely.

7. Pry the power steering pump away from the engine block using a flathead screwdriver. Be careful not to damage the gasket between the pump and the block.

8. Remove the serpentine belt.

9. Use a pulley puller to remove the power steering pulley from the pump shaft.

10. Install the new power steering pulley onto the pump shaft. Hand-tighten the pulley nut.

11. Replace the serpentine belt.

12. Tighten the power steering pump mounting bolts.

13. Add new power steering fluid to the power steering reservoir.

14. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes. Check for leaks.

15. Top off the power steering fluid reservoir if necessary.

Note: If the power steering fluid is contaminated, it is recommended to flush it out before installing a new pulley.

Safety Warning: Disconnect the battery before working on any electrical components. Take care not to drop any tools or debris into the engine compartment. Avoid contact with hot or moving parts.
