How do you change the alternator belt on a 2000 Mazda Protege?

Tools and Materials Needed:

- Socket wrench set

- Ratchet

- Jack and jack stands

- New alternator belt (check your owner's manual for the correct size)

Instructions:

1. Park your car on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and turn off the engine.

2. Open the hood of your car.

3. Locate the alternator. It is usually mounted on the front of the engine, on the driver's side.

4. Identify the alternator belt. It is a black, ribbed belt that runs around the alternator pulley and the crankshaft pulley.

5. Loosen the tensioner pulley. The tensioner pulley is a small pulley that helps to keep the alternator belt tight. It is usually located near the alternator. Use a socket wrench and ratchet to loosen the tensioner pulley.

6. Remove the alternator belt. Once the tensioner pulley is loosened, you can remove the alternator belt by simply pulling it off.

7. Install the new alternator belt. Route the new alternator belt around the alternator pulley and the crankshaft pulley. Make sure that the belt is properly seated in the grooves of the pulleys.

8. Tighten the tensioner pulley. Use the socket wrench and ratchet to tighten the tensioner pulley. Make sure that the belt is tight, but not too tight.

9. Close the hood of your car.
