1. Park your car on a level surface and apply the parking brake.
2. Loosen the lug nuts on the rear wheels.
3. Jack up the rear of the car and place jack stands under the frame rails.
4. Remove the lug nuts and take off the rear wheels.
5. Locate the brake adjuster hole on the back of the brake backing plate. It is usually located near the top of the backing plate.
6. Insert a flat-blade screwdriver into the brake adjuster hole and turn the adjuster screw clockwise until the brake shoes contact the brake drum.
7. Back off the adjuster screw until the brake shoes are just barely rubbing against the brake drum.
8. Reinstall the wheels and lug nuts.
9. Lower the car off the jack stands and test the brakes.
Note: If the brake shoes are excessively worn, they will need to be replaced before the brakes can be adjusted.
