- A hacksaw
- A flat-head screwdriver
- A pair of pliers
Step 1: Insert the hacksaw blade into the keyhole.
Gently insert the hacksaw blade into the keyhole until it reaches the broken key. Be careful not to damage the ignition cylinder.
Step 2: Cut the broken key in half.
Use the hacksaw to cut the broken key in half. Make sure to cut through the center of the key so that both pieces are even.
Step 3: Remove the top half of the broken key.**
Use the flat-head screwdriver to pry the top half of the broken key out of the ignition cylinder. Be careful not to damage the ignition cylinder.
Step 4: Remove the bottom half of the broken key.**
Use the pliers to grasp the bottom half of the broken key and pull it out of the ignition cylinder. Be careful not to damage the ignition cylinder.
Step 5: Test the ignition.
Turn the ignition key to the "On" position to test the ignition. The ignition should start and run normally.
_Tips:_
Make sure not to cut the keyhole, or you'll have more problems and need to replace the lock cylinder
Don't insert the key pieces to far into the cylinder, or you'll have a difficult time removing them
Ensure the ignition is turned to the 'Off' position before you start, and never leave the car with only the lock cylinder inserted
Don't attempt to extract more than one key piece at once.
