1. Gather the Necessary Tools and Parts
- CV Joint Assembly
- Socket Set
- Flat Head Screwdriver
- Pliers
- Rags
- penetrating fluid
- safety goggles
2. Prepare the Car
- Park the car on a level surface and engage the parking brake.
- Chock the wheels to prevent the car from rolling.
- Turn off the engine and allow it to cool down.
- Raise the front of the car using a jack and jack stands.
- Remove the lug nuts and take off the wheel.
3. Remove the CV Axle Nut
- Locate the CV axle nut on the end of the CV axle.
- Soak the nut with penetrating fluid to loosen any rust.
- Use a socket wrench to loosen and remove the nut.
- Be careful not to drop the nut into the CV joint.
4. Separate the CV Joint from the Transmission
- Use a flat head screwdriver to pry the CV boot from the transmission housing.
- Be careful not to damage the boot.
- Slide the CV joint out of the transmission.
5. Remove the CV Joint from the Hub
- Locate the bolts holding the CV joint to the hub.
- Use a socket wrench to loosen and remove the bolts.
- Pull the CV joint out of the hub.
6. Install the New CV Joint
- Slide the new CV joint into the hub.
- Insert the bolts and tighten them until they are snug.
- Slide the CV boot over the CV joint and push it into place until it snaps.
7. Reattach the CV Axle to the Transmission
- Slide the CV joint into the transmission.
- Insert the axle nut and tighten it until it is snug.
8. Replace the Wheel and Lower the Car
- Replace the wheel and lug nuts.
- Tighten the lug nuts in a star pattern until they are snug.
- Slowly lower the car using the jack stands.
9. Test Drive the Car
- Start the car and take it for a short test drive.
- Listen for any unusual noises or vibrations.
- Check for any leaks from the CV joint.
