Step 1: Remove the wheel.
- Loosen the lug nuts on the wheel you're working on.
- Jack up the vehicle and place a jack stand underneath the frame for safety.
- Remove the lug nuts and take off the wheel.
- Locate the brake caliper on the back of the wheel hub.
- Remove the two bolts holding the caliper in place.
- Lift the caliper up and off the rotor.
- Remove the brake pads from the caliper.
Step 2: Inspect the rotor.
- Check the brake pads for signs of wear. If the pads are less than 1/4" thick, they need to be replaced.
- Check the rotor for signs of damage. If the rotor is scored, cracked, or warped, it will need to be replaced.
Step 3: Install the new brake pads.
- Place the new brake pads in the caliper.
- Make sure the pads are seated properly.
- Reinstall the caliper over the rotor.
- Insert the two bolts you removed earlier.
- Torque the bolts to the specified torque.
- Reinstall the wheel and lug nuts.
- Lower the vehicle.
