Tools and Materials Needed:
- New fuel filter (check your owner's manual for the correct part number)
- Diesel-safe fuel line wrench
- Flathead screwdriver
- Clean rags
- Safety goggles and gloves
Procedure:
1. Locate the Fuel Filter:
Open your vehicle's hood and locate the fuel filter. In the Ford Fiesta TDCi models, it is usually situated in the engine bay, close to the fuel injector lines. It may be covered by an access panel or housing.
2. Relieve Fuel System Pressure:
Before removing the fuel filter, you must relieve the pressure from the fuel system to prevent fuel spillage and reduce the risk of injury. To do this, start your vehicle and let it run for a few seconds until it enters idle mode. Then, turn off the engine and wait a few minutes to let the pressure decrease.
3. Remove the Fuel Filter Access Panel:
If there is an access panel or housing covering the fuel filter, carefully remove it using a flathead screwdriver or by unclipping any securing clips.
4. Disconnect the Fuel Lines:
Use a diesel-safe fuel line wrench to loosen and disconnect the fuel lines attached to the fuel filter. Be ready to catch any fuel that may spill using a clean rag.
5. Replace the Fuel Filter:
Remove the old fuel filter from its mounting bracket. Be cautious not to spill any remaining fuel. Then, insert the new fuel filter into the bracket, ensuring that it aligns and seats properly.
6. Reconnect the Fuel Lines:
Firmly reconnect the fuel lines to the fuel filter inlet and outlet ports. Use the fuel line wrench to tighten the connections securely.
7. Restore Fuel System Pressure:
Turn on the ignition switch to the "On" position (without starting the engine) for several cycles to build up pressure in the fuel system. This will help purge any air that may have entered during the filter change.
8. Start the Engine:
Finally, start your vehicle and let it run for a few minutes. Check for any leaks or unusual sounds. If everything seems fine, replace the access panel or housing, if applicable.
