Tools and Materials:
1. New Alternator.
2. Socket set.
3. Wrench set.
4. Pliers.
5. Screwdriver.
6. Safety glasses.
Steps:
1. Disconnect the battery: Begin by disconnecting the negative terminal from your Accord’s battery.
2. Remove the serpentine belt: Locate the serpentine belt that is connected to the alternator. Use the appropriate wrench to loosen the tensioner pulley and remove the belt.
3. Disconnect the alternator connections: There should be two cables connected to the alternator – the positive (B+) cable and the field (FLD) cable. Disconnect these cables by loosening the bolts holding them in place.
4. Remove the alternator: Use a socket wrench to loosen the bolts holding the alternator in place. Carefully remove the alternator from its compartment.
5. Install the new alternator: Position the new alternator in place and secure it with the bolts you removed in the previous step.
6. Reconnect the alternator connections: Reconnect the positive (B+) and field (FLD) cables to the alternator and tighten the bolts to secure them.
7. Reinstall the serpentine belt: Install the serpentine belt back onto the alternator and tension the belt using the tensioner pulley.
8. Reconnect battery: Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
That’s it! You have successfully replaced the alternator in your 2005 Honda Accord EX.
