1. Turn the ignition key to the "ON" position. Do not start the engine.
2. Connect the OBD-II scanner to your car's diagnostic port. The port is usually located under the dashboard on the driver's side.
3. Turn on the OBD-II scanner.
4. Select "Read codes" from the menu.
5. The scanner will display any diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) that are stored in your car's computer.
6. Write down the DTCs. You will need these if you need to have the problem diagnosed by a mechanic.
7. Select "Erase codes" from the menu.
8. The scanner will erase the DTCs from your car's computer.
9. Turn off the OBD-II scanner.
10. Start your car.
The check engine light should now be reset. If the light comes back on, there is still a problem with your car that needs to be diagnosed and repaired.
