1. Gather Tools and Parts
- Socket set
- Wrench set
- Screwdriver
- Pliers
- Hammer
- New CV joint
- Grease
2. Safety First
- Engage the parking brake and chock the wheels to prevent the vehicle from rolling.
- Let the engine cool down if you have been driving.
3. Locate the CV Joint
- The CV joint is located where the driveshaft meets the wheel.
- Identify the side you need to replace (driver or passenger).
4. Remove the Wheel and Tire
- Use a lug wrench to loosen and remove the lug nuts.
- Take off the wheel and tire.
5. Remove the Driveshaft
- Disconnect any electrical connectors near the CV joint.
- Use a wrench to loosen and remove the nuts or bolts holding the CV joint to the wheel hub.
- Carefully pull the driveshaft out of the wheel hub.
6. Remove the Old CV Joint
- Use a screwdriver and pliers to remove the circlips holding the CV joint in place.
- Carefully pry the old CV joint off the driveshaft.
7. Clean the Driveshaft
- Use a wire brush to clean the driveshaft and remove any old grease or debris.
8. Install the New CV Joint
- Apply grease to the splines of the driveshaft.
- Slide the new CV joint onto the driveshaft.
- Secure it with the circlips.
9. Reinstall the Driveshaft
- Insert the driveshaft back into the wheel hub.
- Tighten the nuts or bolts that hold it in place.
10. Reattach the Wheel and Tire
- Put the wheel and tire back on, and replace the lug nuts.
- Tighten the lug nuts in a star pattern to evenly distribute the pressure.
11. Test Drive
- Take your Camry for a short test drive to ensure the CV joint is functioning properly.
