How to remove rear brake drum on 1987 Toyota pick up 4 wheel drive?

Tools needed:

-Jack

-Jack stands

-Lug wrench

-Flat-head screwdriver

-Hammer

-Punch

-Brake cleaner

-New brake shoes

-New brake drum

Instructions

1. Park your truck on a level surface and apply the parking brake.

2. Loosen the lug nuts on the rear wheels with your lug wrench. Do not remove the lug nuts at this time.

3. Jack up the rear of your truck until the wheels are off the ground.

4. Place jack stands under the frame of your truck and lower the vehicle onto them.

5. Remove the lug nuts and take off the rear wheels.

6. Use a flat-head screwdriver and hammer to remove the brake drum dust cap.

7. Use a punch to drive out the cotter pin that holds the axle nut in place.

8. Use your lug wrench to loosen and remove the axle nut.

9. Slide the axle nut, washer, and brake drum off of the axle.

10. Use brake cleaner to clean the axle, brake drum, and brake shoes.

11. Install the new brake shoes and brake drum.

12. Reinstall the axle nut, washer, and cotter pin. Tighten the axle nut until it is snug, then install a new cotter pin.

13. Replace the brake drum dust cap.

14. Reinstall the rear wheels and lug nuts.

15. Lower your truck off of the jack stands and remove the jack.

16. Test your brakes by applying them several times before driving.
