Tools and Materials Needed:
- New wiper blade inserts (check your vehicle's owner's manual for the correct size)
- Clean cloth
- Isopropyl alcohol (optional)
Instructions:
1. Prepare the Van: Park your van on a level surface and turn off the engine. Ensure the windshield wipers are in the "off" position.
2. Locate the Wiper Blade: On the driver's side, lift the wiper arm until it's nearly vertical. Do the same for the passenger side. This will make it easier to access and replace the wiper blades.
3. Slide the Old Wiper Blade Off: Press the release tab or button (if present) on the wiper blade assembly. It's usually located near the base of the wiper arm. While pressing the release, pull the old wiper blade straight up to remove it from the arm.
4. Clean the Wiper Arm: Use a clean cloth to wipe the wiper arm. You can optionally clean the arm with isopropyl alcohol to remove any dirt or debris. This ensures better contact between the new blade and the windshield.
5. Attach the New Wiper Blade: Align the hook of the new wiper blade with the arm and slide it into place. Make sure it snaps securely onto the arm.
6. Repeat for the Other Side: Repeat steps 2-5 to replace the wiper blade on the passenger side.
7. Test the Wipers: Turn on the windshield wipers and check their functionality. Ensure they move smoothly and wipe the windshield effectively.
8. Dispose of Old Blades: Properly dispose of the old wiper blades by recycling them at an appropriate facility if available in your area.
Tips:
- If there's no release button or tab, you may need to gently pry the old blade off the wiper arm using a flat-head screwdriver or plastic pry tool. Be careful not to damage the arm.
- Some wiper blade assemblies may have different mechanisms, so refer to your vehicle's owner's manual for specific instructions if necessary.
- Replace the wiper blades periodically, typically once a year or as recommended by the vehicle manufacturer. Worn wiper blades can compromise visibility during rain or snow.
