- Screwdriver
- Caliper bolts
- Brake cleaner
- New front brake rotors
- New brake pads (optional)
- Bungee cord
Instructions:
1. Park your Jeep Liberty in a safe location and set the parking brake. Engage gear or engage e-brake. Loosen the lug nuts on the front wheels, but do not remove them completely.
2. Raise your Jeep Liberty with the jack and place jack stands under the vehicle for safety.
3. Remove the lug nuts and take off the wheels.
4. Locate the brake caliper on the front of the wheel hub. There are two bolts that hold the caliper in place. Remove these bolts and carefully remove the caliper.
5. Use a screwdriver to pry the old brake pads out of the caliper.
6. Inspect the brake pads and rotors for wear. If the brake pads are worn down to the metal backing, they will need to be replaced. If the rotors are grooved or scored, they will need to be replaced as well.
7. Clean the caliper and the hub assembly with brake cleaner.
8. Slide the new brake rotors onto the hub assembly.
9. Reinstall the caliper and the brake pads. Tighten the caliper bolts until they are snug.
10. Reinstall the wheels and lug nuts. Tighten the lug nuts until they are snug.
11. Lower the vehicle and remove the jack stands.
12. Test the brakes by driving the vehicle at a low speed and applying the brakes. The brakes should feel firm and responsive.
That is it! If everything checks out you have successfully replaced the front brake rotors on your 2002 Jeep Liberty.
