_Please note that bypassing the AC pulley is a temporary solution and should not be used as a long-term fix. If your AC pulley is damaged or malfunctioning, it should be replaced as soon as possible._
1. Locate the AC pulley. It is usually located on the front of the engine, near the top. It is a round pulley with a grooved edge.
2. Loosen the tensioner pulley. This is the pulley that is located near the AC pulley. It has a spring-loaded arm that you can loosen by turning the bolt that is located in the center of the arm.
3. Remove the serpentine belt. Start by slipping the belt off of the AC pulley. Then, work your way around the engine, slipping the belt off of the other pulleys.
4. Measure the serpentine belt. Use a tape measure to measure the length of the belt that you just removed.
5. Purchase a new serpentine belt. Make sure that the new belt is the same length as the old belt.
6. Install the new serpentine belt. Start by slipping the belt around the AC pulley. Then, work your way around the engine, slipping the belt around the other pulleys.
7. Tighten the tensioner pulley. Turn the bolt in the center of the arm until the tensioner pulley is snug against the belt.
8. Test the serpentine belt. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes. Make sure that the belt is running smoothly and that there are no squealing noises.
Notes:
If the serpentine belt is running hot or noisy after your first test drive then the tension on the tensioner pulley is too high and should be adjusted as necessary
* If you are unable to loosen the tensioner pulley, you may need to use a pry bar to help you.
* Be careful not to over-tighten the tensioner pulley, as this can damage the belt.
* If you have any questions about bypassing the AC pulley, please consult with a qualified mechanic.
