- A new steering wheel
- A 3/4-inch wrench
- A 1-1/8-inch wrench
- A torque wrench
- A flathead screwdriver
- A Phillips head screwdriver
- Safety glasses
Step 2: Disconnect the battery.
- This is a safety precaution to prevent the airbag from deploying while you're working.
- Locate the battery in your Class 8 truck.
- It is usually located under the hood, near the front of the vehicle.
- Use the 3/4-inch wrench to loosen the negative battery cable and remove it from the battery.
Step 3: Remove the airbag module.
- Use the flathead screwdriver to pry open the access panel on the back of the steering wheel.
- Locate the two Torx screws that hold the airbag module in place.
- Use the Phillips head screwdriver to remove the screws.
- Be careful not to drop the screws.
- Gently pull the airbag module straight out of the steering wheel.
- Once the airbag module is removed, unplug the electrical connector.
Step 4: Remove the steering wheel.
- Use the 1-1/8-inch wrench to remove the center bolt.
- Be careful not to drop the bolt.
- Gently pull the steering wheel straight off of the steering column.
Step 5: Install the new steering wheel.
- Align the new steering wheel with the steering column.
- Start the center bolt and tighten it until it is snug.
- Use the torque wrench to tighten the center bolt to the specified torque.
Step 6: Reconnect the airbag module.
- Connect the electrical connector to the airbag module.
- Insert the airbag module into the steering wheel and secure it with the two Torx screws.
- Close the access panel on the back of the steering wheel.
Step 7: Reconnect the battery.
- Reconnect the negative battery cable to the battery.
- Tighten the battery cable until it is snug.
