- Car jack and jack stands
- Lug wrench
- Socket wrench set
- Brake cleaner
- Brake fluid
- New brake pads and rotors (if necessary)
Instructions:
1. Loosen the lug nuts on the wheel you will be working on, but do not remove them completely.
2. Chock the wheels that will remain on the ground to prevent the vehicle from rolling.
3. Raise your vehicle with the car jack and place jack stands under the frame for safety.
4. Remove the lug nuts and take off the wheel.
5. Inspect the brake pads and rotors. If the pads are worn down to 1/4 inch (6 mm) or less, or if the rotors are scored or damaged, they will need to be replaced.
6. If necessary, remove the old brake pads and rotors.
7. Clean the caliper and brake pad mounting surface with brake cleaner.
8. Install the new brake pads and rotors. Make sure to follow the instructions that came with your replacement brake pads and rotors.
9. Reinstall the wheel and lug nuts.
10. Lower the vehicle off the jack stands and remove them.
11. Check the brake fluid level in the master cylinder and add fluid if necessary.
Note: Always replace brake pads in pairs, and never mix different brands or types of brake pads on the same axle.
