1. Gather your tools and materials.
* New oil filter (check your owner's manual for the correct size)
* Oil filter wrench
* Oil drain pan
* Funnel
* New oil (check your owner's manual for the correct type and amount)
* Rags
* Gloves
* Safety glasses
2. Prepare your car.
* Park your car on a level surface.
* Turn off the engine and allow it to cool down.
* Engage the parking brake.
* Crawl under the car and locate the oil drain plug.
3. Drain the oil.
* Place the oil drain pan under the oil drain plug.
* Use the wrench to loosen the oil drain plug.
* Allow the oil to drain completely.
4. Replace the oil filter.
* Locate the oil filter. It is usually near the top of the engine.
* Use the oil filter wrench to loosen the oil filter.
* Be careful not to spill any oil.
* Apply a thin coat of new oil to the gasket of the new oil filter.
* Screw the new oil filter into place until it is snug.
5. Refill the oil.
* Use the funnel to add new oil to the engine.
* Add the amount of oil specified in your owner's manual.
* Check the oil level with the dipstick. The oil level should be between the "full" and "add" marks on the dipstick.
6. Start the engine and check for leaks.
* Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes.
* Check for any leaks under the car.
* If you see any leaks, tighten the oil drain plug or oil filter until the leak stops.
