In most jurisdictions, repossession must occur in a safe place, and they must generally make a reasonable attempt to contact you before the car can be repossessed (unless you're in default by more than 20 days according to the FCRA). It's illegal for a repo man to take a car that is parked in a public place with someone inside it, as it is considered breach of the peace. They may only take a car that is parked in the public right-of-way, and they must have the owner's permission to enter the owner's property to take the car.
However, if you are in default on your car payments and the repo man has the proper paperwork, they may be able to take your car from the store's parking lot as long as it's in a public space. If the repo man attempts to take your car while you are inside of it, you should immediately contact the police.
