What does it mean when a car has water in the exhaust and can be fixed?

Water in the exhaust is a normal occurrence in gasoline-powered cars, and usually nothing to worry about. It's a byproduct of combustion. The water comes from the burning of hydrogen in the fuel, which combines with oxygen to form water vapor (H₂O). This vapor condenses into liquid water when it cools in the exhaust system.

You only need to be concerned if you have:

* A lot of water: A small amount of condensation is normal, but excessive amounts could indicate a problem, such as a blown head gasket (allowing coolant to enter the combustion chamber), a cracked engine block, or a leak in the cooling system. This would usually be accompanied by other symptoms like overheating, white smoke from the exhaust, low coolant levels, or milky oil.

* Water coming out continuously: While some condensation might drip after the engine cools, a constant stream of water suggests a major issue.

If you're seeing significant amounts of water or other symptoms, it's crucial to have your car inspected by a mechanic. The "fix" would depend entirely on the underlying problem. It could be anything from a simple repair to a costly engine rebuild. But again, a *small* amount of water is perfectly normal and not a problem.
