1. Disconnect the battery. This is a safety precaution to prevent sparks that could ignite fuel vapors.
2. Raise the vehicle with a floor jack and jack stands.
3. Locate the fuel tank. The fuel tank is usually located under the bed of the truck, behind the rear axle.
4. Remove the fuel tank straps. There are usually two or three fuel tank straps that hold the tank in place.
5. Lower the fuel tank. Once the straps have been removed, you can carefully lower the fuel tank by pulling it towards the rear of the truck.
6. Disconnect the fuel lines and electrical connectors. There will be two fuel lines and an electrical connector that need to be disconnected from the fuel tank.
7. Remove the fuel pump. The fuel pump is located on the top of the fuel tank. It is secured by a lock ring that can be removed with a special tool or a large screwdriver.
8. Replace the fuel pump. Remove the old fuel pump and install the new fuel pump.
9. Reinstall the fuel tank. Reverse the steps above to reinstall the fuel tank.
10. Reconnect the battery.
