Just one month ago, the Nissan Leaf got a 1.000 € price cut in Portugal, now it gets another one, but this time it’s smaller (500 €).
Anyway, the recent 500 € price cut puts the Nissan Leaf’s highest trim level (Tekna) for the first time below 30.000 €.
This new price cut might seem small, but in Portugal 500 € is enough to pay for 2.500 kWh (0,2 € per kWh), which itself enables you to do around 16.667 km in a Nissan Leaf (at 15 kWh/100 km). Consider this price cut as free “fuel” for roughly 15.000 km 🙂
By the way, you can ignore that 24 kWh Visia option, 24 kWh batteries were discontinued for a long time, I don’t know why Nissan keeps it still showing in the Leaf’s configurator…
If you’re curious about the reason why electric cars in Portugal seem to get price drops before other European countries, it’s simple. Summer arrives here sooner than it does in the rest of Europe. I’m not trying to make you jealous (well, maybe just a bit), but right now in Lisbon we have temperatures around 28/29º C and we all know that the best time to get people test driving electric cars for the first time it’s when the weather it’s nice and warm – for the guess-o-meter display a higher estimated range. Now it’s the right time for the “butts-in-seats” marketing.

With the unveil of the new generation Nissan Leaf and the arrival of the Opel Ampera-e in Europe approaching, we should see further price drops for the first generation Leaf.
It’s a fact that the Renault Zoe and the Nissan Leaf are heavily advertised for test drives during the summer. I’m now curious to see which other electric car alternative will adopt the same “butts-in-seats” strategy. Beside the Renault-Nissan Alliance I see BMW as the legacy automaker most interested in electric cars, so I do expect a lot of advertising and incentives for the BMW i3 coming soon. I also have some expectations about Kia and Hyundai going very strong in the electric car field sooner than some might think.
