NIO delivered 413 ES6 in June

Last month the Chinese automaker NIO delivered 416 ES6 vehicles to customers. This is a small but important step because it’s the first mass-production electric car to be delivered to customers with NCM 811 batteries.

The all-electric NIO ES6 has a 84 kWh battery pack made with NCM 811 battery cells from CATL.

Let’s see the press release.

  • Delivered 3,553 ES8 and ES6 vehicles in the second quarter of 2019
  • Delivered 1,340 vehicles in June 2019, including 927 ES8s and 413 ES6s
  • Cumulative deliveries of ES8 and ES6 reached 18,890

SHANGHAI, China, July 10, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — NIO Inc. (“NIO” or the “Company”) (NYSE: NIO), a pioneer in China’s premium electric vehicle market, today provided delivery results for the second quarter of 2019.

Second quarter deliveries totaled 3,553, exceeding the midpoint of the Company’s prior quarterly guidance range of 2,800 to 3,200 by 18.4%.

As of June 30, 2019, aggregate deliveries of the Company’s ES8 and ES6 reached 18,890 vehicles since the Company’s ES8 commenced deliveries one year ago.

The NCM 811 designation means that the cathode besides lithium contains nickel, cobalt and manganese in a composition ratio of 8:1:1. Most automakers still use batteries with NCM 622/523 cathodes but will upgrade to NCM 811 soon. The reduction of cobalt content in batteries is crucial to reduce costs and increase production output.

Anyway, NCM 811 cathode only arrived this year to electric cars, but battery cell makers are already working in its successor with good results. You can expect a long article on the subject very soon. Stay tuned 🙂
