It’s time to make a cup of tea and catch up on this month’s roundup. Just a few gems of electric vehicle news this time… the announcement about green electric car number plates is exciting isn’t it!? Although we would love the jazzy new plates on all our electric cars and vans we’re not sure retro-fitting is going to be very environmentally friendly. So maybe if you have an EV already just wear your regular number plate with pride as a badge of early adoption! Waffle over, let’s dive into the roundup:

The Government has announced there are some changes set to come into action from 22nd June 2020 which includes a rise in the Congestion Charge and temporarily extended hours. Sadiq Khan the Mayor of London has explained these measures are designed to help avoid attracting too much traffic to London streets following the government encouraging people to go back to work but to also avoid public transport where possible.
We had a whale of a time recruiting participants for the original Electric Nation project, we spoke to literally thousands of lovely EV drivers to find 700 participants. So we were super excited to be able to share the news that at last Electric Nation V2G has launched!

This is a great read if you’re a Fully Charged Show fan, and if you’re just discovering them then it’s your lucky day because the Fully Charged Team and Show are incredible advocates for renewable energy and EVs and you’ll love their stuff, but 10 years ago when Robert Llewellyn posted the first ever episode of the Fully charged show the UK electric vehicle world was a bit of a lonely place (…we were there too and we remember it well!). Dan Caesar joined the Fully Charged team 4 years ago and these are his thoughts on their action packed last few years:
“I didn’t think Fully Charged was a fully-fledged conglomerate, but having seen some of the beautifully-shot, highly engaging episodes, I was shocked to discover that it really was just Robert, a very talented cameraman, and a part-time production assistant.
It still staggers me what Robert has achieved – he will be embarrassed when he reads this – but to see what was coming in respect of clean energy and electric vehicles, and to self-fund a YouTube channel back in 2010 was as prescient as it was risky
Watch the pilot episode to see just how on-the-money Robert’s predictions were, way back when, when electric vehicles were derided, and wind, solar and batteries were ‘always on the horizon.”
Congratulations to all Fully Charged Show Team on your 10th birthday. The UK (and beyond) EV landscape is a much better place thanks to you guys being in it. So please keep telling people to “Stop burning stuff!”
There have been rumblings for a while that this was going to be ‘a thing’ (we mentioned this in our September 2018 roundup), but now its been confirmed that green number plates for 100% electric vehicles will be rolled out from this autumn.
A number of designs were up for discussion previously, however it’s been decided the plates identifying EVs will have have a green flash on the left-hand side. We’re looking forward to seeing these on the road and we think it’ll be really surprising for people who aren’t into EVs at the moment to see just how many are out there!
We’ve seen more and more contactless rapid charging emerging in the last couple of years, we’re fans of the Polar network for example and our local Polar rapid charger ONLY operates via contactless payment. If all public charge points were contactless it would make EV adoption so much more accessible, so it’s great to hear that a number of engeenie chargers are going to contactless and accessible in retail car parks.
