Hyundai introduces an appealing more affordable E-SUV model the ‘Kona Electric’. This cutting-edge SUV can reach a range of up to 300 miles (WLTP) on the larger 64kWh battery version. With a list price starting from £33,940 (64kWh), you are able to get the same range as a Tesla Model S 75D for less than half of the price.
This is Hyundai’s second electric vehicle following their IONIQ which was first released in 2016. The Kona has been highly anticipated due to it’s impressive range and modest price tag. It’s a first in the world of electric cars, a vehicle that can travel 250 miles of ‘real-world’ range at an ‘affordable’ price, making the Kona into a very attractive EV lease option.
This EV was named after the Kona district, which is a famous vacation spot on Hawaii’s Big Island. This manufacturer’s Santa Fe and Tucson SUV’s are also named after popular holiday locations. We found the Hyundai IONIQ does live up to it’s idyllic name, in our opinion it drives like an absolute dream.
Kona electric is available in two battery sizes:
If you’re on a longer journey and need to top-up on a rapid charger (often found at motorway service stations) the Kona electric’s 64kWh battery takes around 75 minutes to charge up to 80% when connected to a rapid charger, and up to 57 minutes for the 39kWh version.

Using a standard home wallbox charger:
The KONA Electric follows the attractive design of the original KONA with a few altered features like the closed front grille. It comes with 17″ aero-dynamic alloy wheels. You can choose from the 21 vibrant colour combinations available, made up of 7 body colours along with 3 contrasting roof colour choices. Other features include wireless device charging, heated seats and a premium sound system.
