To get to the back of the fan speed switch on a 2000 VW Beetle, you will need to:

1. Remove the negative battery cable.

2. Remove the steering wheel airbag.

3. Remove the steering wheel.

4. Remove the upper and lower steering column covers.

5. Remove the center console.

6. Remove the heater control panel.

7. Unplug the electrical connector from the fan speed switch.

8. Remove the two screws that hold the fan speed switch in place.

9. Pull the fan speed switch out of the dash.

Once you have removed the fan speed switch, you will be able to access the back of it.
