How do you set the timing on a 90 Toyota pick up?

To set the timing on a 1990 Toyota pickup, you will need the following tools:

-Timing light

-Socket set

-Wrench

-Feeler gauge

1. Locate the timing marks on the engine. The timing marks are usually located on the front of the engine, near the crankshaft pulley.

2. Disconnect the spark plug wires.

3. Remove the distributor cap.

4. Locate the rotor button inside the distributor. The rotor button is connected to the distributor shaft and rotates as the engine runs.

5. Turn the engine until the rotor button is aligned with the timing mark on the distributor body.

6. Insert the feeler gauge between the distributor points. The feeler gauge should be 0.020 inches thick.

7. Loosen the distributor hold-down bolt.

8. Turn the distributor until the points just begin to open.

9. Tighten the distributor hold-down bolt.

10. Reconnect the spark plug wires.

11. Start the engine and check the timing with a timing light. The timing should be set to 5 degrees before top dead center (BTDC).

If the timing is not correct, repeat steps 5-9 until the timing is correct.
